East Austin’s Next Great Destination: Whisper Valley Park
“Austin’s next Zilker Park” will be located within Whisper Valley. After working with the City of Austin for more than two years, Whisper Valley is excited to unveil concept plans for Whisper Valley Park, the 600-acre signature park located just off SH 130 from FM 973.
About Whisper Valley Park
Extending west of Taylor Lane near an area designated as a Certified Wildlife Habitat by the National Wildlife Federation, Whisper Valley Park will be a public Austin park featuring nature trails and programed areas that include picnic areas, manicured open space, playgrounds, shade structures, restrooms, community gardens, a natural amphitheater for events, benches, landscaping and signage.
The park will also become the centerpiece of a new master trail plan that will ultimately connect the City of Austin’s 4,000-acre Walter E. Long Park & Lake, the Tavis County 14-mile trail system, and the East Metropolitan Park through Whisper Valley, offering an estimated 20 miles of trails.
Additionally, a 4-mile, 12-foot-long concrete trail and a 3-mile, 8-foot-wide nature trail are planned along Gilleland Creek, which runs the length of the park.
Whisper Valley Park will also showcase two programed areas for numerous community activities. The first area will be located adjacent to the community retail center at Braker Lane and FM 973, and the second will be situated near Phase 6 and 7 in the heart of the Whisper Valley community.
Park Construction Plans
Phase 1 of Whisper Valley Park’s Concept Plan has begun funding. The final design is scheduled to be completed in 2025 with Phase 1A construction beginning in 2026. There will be seven phases of construction over a six-year period.
Phase 1A-1C will include the design and construction of miles of 12-foot-wide pedestrian trails that extend from the community retail center at FM 973 and meander along Gilleland Creek to Taylor Lane. There will be trailheads that allow residents to easily walk and ride bikes from within the neighborhood to the park.
Welcome to the Naturehood
Whisper Valley’s sustainable community design already offers homeowners unparalleled access to nature trails and open greenspace. The addition of the 600-acre Whisper Valley Park will create a true “Naturehood” that will be unlike any other community in Austin.
Furthermore, zero energy capable homes in Whisper Valley utilize clean, renewable energy to better protect our natural environment and pave the way for a greener tomorrow.
The newest phases in Whisper Valley, Highview and Glenmore, are under construction with new home opportunities currently underway from the mid $300s-$600s by Pacesetter Homes, GFO Home, AHA Dream Homes, Thurman Homes and Terrata Homes.
